In honor of the painters of Black Mountain College, Cilla Vee presents SPLAT! – a living embodiment of paint. Paint-as-medium, paint-as-subject, paint-as-collaborator, paint-as-author in the creation of art.
As the eighth annual ReViewing Black Mountain College conference begins, attendees will be greeted outside the Reuter Center by this kinetic celebration of paint.

ReVIEWING Black Mountain College 8 is an annual conference co-hosted by Black Mountain College Museum + Art Center and the University of North Carolina, Asheville. September 23 – 25


Cilla Vee  (Claire Elizabeth Barratt) is an inter-disciplinary performing artist and director of Cilla Vee Life Arts – an arts organization founded in the South Bronx in 2002, with a focus on cross-media collaboration.
Claire received her professional training in London at The Laban Centre For Movement and Dance and at the London Studio Centre For Performing Arts. Her pre-professional training includes the Royal Academy of Dance and the Royal Schools of Music examinations. She also served an apprenticeship with the Isadora Duncan Dance Foundation in New York and has just completed an MFA in Creative Practice with the Transart Institute based in Berlin.
During the 1990s She was a founding member and co-director of Circle Modern Dance for ten years in Knoxville TN (now celebrating its 25th anniversary!) as well as resident choreographer for the Knoxville Opera Company and a dancer for Asheville Contemporary dance Theatre.
Claire has presented her work in venues as diverse as Jacob’s Pillow, the New York Botanical Gardens, Black Mountain College Museum + Art Center and Art Basel Miami. She has performed and taught throughout the USA, Canada, Europe and Japan.
She is based in Asheville, North Carolina.
